Cross country

On Wednesday the 10th of September 5 students from the year 7 and 8 went to the interschool cross country that was held at pirate stadium in Hamilton. They did very well because most of them got into the top 50 out of 100. Robyn got 5th place, Jonathan got 34th, Hannah go 31st, Jessica got 53rd, and Cody got 63rd place. The feedback they gave was that it was very muddy and slippery. There were not many hills and they were not very steep. The course wasn’t as big and hard as they had expected. They had to run in hail and big showers. But it was worth it.

Speeches again

On Wednesday the 10th of September at St Patricks hall in Putaruru, the lion’s speech finals were held. The contest started at 6:30 and ended at about 9:30. There were about 13 contestants including the intermediate section. Megan Hemming, Blayne Hughes and Chloe Belfield participated in this event.
First everyone said their prepared speech and then later on came the impromptu speeches. I enjoyed the prepared speeches the most because I got to hear all of them. The impromptu speech was the hardest because you only get about ten seconds to prepare for that speech. The contestants were given a topic and had to talk for only one minute. It was a great experience to be able to participate in the contest. I was really nervous but as I said my speech it felt just like I was doing it in front of the school again. Blayne competed in the intermediate section (the year 7 and 8’s) and Megan and Chloe competed in the primary section (year 5 and 6’s).
The competition went well for Blayne who was placed in first place. Megan and Chloe also did very well being placed 3rd equal.
It was a great experience and I hope to go again.

On Thursday we had a speech day and it was fantastic. All the year three to eight students went to different class with different teachers. Year sixes went to room 4, year sevens went to room 9 and the year eights went to the hall. There were three finalist from each year level. Year six finalist were Megan, Chloe and Jasmine. Year sevens were Robyn, Emily and Sam. Year eights were Gabe, Blayne and Georgia. They are in the finals on Monday so all I can say now is good luck in the finals and I can’t wait to see who is going to the finals. Remember all the things you have to do when you're doing your speech!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Art Week

We have just finished art week. It was so much fun. Each day we went to a different class and did art to do with the Waikato river.
Some of the year 7 and 8 students did wearable art in Room 1. They are going to enter the competition run by St Mary’s school. I hope one of them wins! They should do because the costumes look fantastic.
This week we have the speech class competition. We have been practising hard for these. You can read some of our speeches in our writing blog!
